What is Microneedling?

Microneedling (also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy) is an anti-aging and collagen-boosting treatment used to improve the skin’s texture and tone, reduce acne scarring and brown spots, and minimize fine lines, pores and wrinkles.

How does Microneedling work?

At Luminosity Studios medical spa in Guelph, the revolutionary MicroPen EVO^™ with tiny, surgical grade needles is used to create thousands of micro-channels (small punctures) in the skin. This causes controlled injury or trauma to the skin, prompting a deeper layer of skin to rebuild and allowing fresh new skin to emerge, giving your complexion a most radiant glow. A microneedling treatment lasts approximately 30 minutes and 3 treatments are recommended 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results. Most individuals can maintain the results of microneedling by coming for a maintenance appointment every 6 months to maintain high collagen production.

Does Microneedling hurt?

Most people would say that microneedling is mildly uncomfortable. At Luminosity Studios we apply a topical numbing cream to minimize any discomfort. Your face, neck or other treatment area may be red for a short period of time following the treatment. An added benefit of microneedling is that it increases the absorption of topical skin care products such as Hyaluronic acid (HA) and Vitamin C serums.

Also known as a Botox^® Facial, this is a major skin booster and anti-aging treatment that will bring your complexion to the next level and send visible signs of aging packing! This triple threat treatment combines microneedling with HA or PRP + 20 units topical Botox. Improves fine lines and wrinkles, evens out complexion by reducing sun damage and dark spots, tightens pores, reduces redness and oiliness and smooths skin texture.

A Glass Facial treatment takes about 40 minutes. Topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment areas. Following each pass of microneedling with the MicroPen EVO^™, either Hyaluronic Acid serum or PRP is applied to your skin, penetrating below the surface and into those micro-channels and boosting skin rejuvenation. After the final pass, topical Botox is applied to your skin. The result is a glowing complexion that’s as ‘clear as glass’. Skin will be red immediately following the treatment (it will look like you got some sun at the beach). It takes 1-3 days for your skin to fully heal, after which you will see a significant improvement in the quality of your skin. Results will continue to improve in the weeks that follow, with the most noticeable results showing after about a month. Your skin will look more fresh, radiant and rejuvenated than ever before!

Microneedling + PRP (also known as Vampire Facial)

Microneedling with PRP, also referred to as a Vampire Facial, is a microneedling treatment that uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to amplify skin rejuvenation. A vampire facial begins with a small amount of blood being drawn, then spun in a centrifuge which separates the platelet rich plasma. During this time, topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment areas. The PRP is filled with your own body’s most nutritive and regenerative properties. Our experienced Nurse Injector will apply your nutrient rich PRP to your skin following each pass of microneedling with the MicroPen EVO^™. The PRP penetrates below the surface of the skin, into those micro-channels, boosting skin rejuvenation. PRP is your body’s own natural skin booster.
